Ann: Study 1

My next major work is of Ann. I haven’t seen her in a while but I can still recall our photo session in June last year.

I’m approaching this painting a bit different than the previous ones. I’m adjusting the composition more than I have in the other photos. I’m also starting with multiple studies, this is actually the second as I did some sketches yesterday of my ideas.

So far I’m really loving this composition. There is a feeling of time, space and history that I feel I can capture. The more I look at it the more I think I should just go for it and start on the bigger canvas. But I’m glad I need to order some supplies and build the canvas, it will force me to live with this composition for a week or so before committing to it.

Interesting fact, I painted this study on a piece of canvas from the previous first attempt of Patrick’s painting more than 7 months ago.

What went well?

I’m almost certain I have the composition of this painting figured out.

What didn’t go so well?

I assumed that a study that was only 5×10 inches would only take about 30 minutes but I was very wrong.

What did I learn?

Studies take a long time to paint.
