Living Room: A Balance of Detail

In this session I’m trying to balance detail with distraction.

Detail is good until it pulls away from the main interest of the painting. I could go super detailed on this bright purple box in the background but I know that will detract away from the portrait and figure. So, I not only try and keep it vague but I also lower the chroma of the colors in the box.

Even not in this photo I think it may be a bit too distracting but I’ve also noticed that these photos tend to sharpen all edges more than what is actually in the painting and increase the chroma. I’ll have to determine any changes from looking at the original work.

  1. I didn’t notice the box until you pointed it out. I think you did a fantastic job of keeping the details muted and not overpowering the painting.
