Monochrome Start #20

After 20 monochrome starts I still struggle with the drawing.

I’m not 100% sure that the issues I’m having with drawing these starts are caused by the awkward ness of using a brush. I’m getting used to the brush now and after moving to a mostly dry brush I feel much more confident. I honestly could see myself making the same mistakes with my normal charcoal pencil.

What I would like to accomplish is a drawing that doesn’t look so obviously labored. I achieved this with a few of the twenty, especially #16 that seemed to be luck, at least at my current level of skill.
