Landscape Painting: Carcreek park in Seattle

So I changed how I name these posts, from now on they will be called Sessions, and I’m going back through all my posts and adding a session number plus a painting number. One day I will take all this data and do some cool thing with it… not sure what though.

My first time doing a landscape painting at Carcreek park in Seattle. I stayed close to the entrance of the park as there is usually tons of people down by the shore.

I tried to do like Sargent and just sit down anywhere and start painting but I had to have some kinda focus. I chose the grouping of trees you see. Unfortunately I spent so much time on the main trees that I didn’t get a lot of time to try and work on making structure out of the fluff and crap on the right and left of the painting. Mainly because after 2.5 hours of painting I had to go to the bathroom so bad that I had to leave. I really wish they had restrooms there, or at least less people so I could go in the bushes.

The Painting

FYI my pictures of these paintings really suck, I need to figure out the best possible setup for taking pics.

Drawing

How can I improve the drawing

I’m happy with the drawing, I wasn’t going with perfectly exact but I got it close and that is all that matters. I mean really, this isn’t a figure… but yeah I should have the drawing to the best of my ability always.

Value

How can I improve the values?

Yeah, I’m missing a bunch of dark areas in the foreground and on the fluff to the right and left. The trees in the center are actually darker in the painting but my photo setup sucks and I get nothing but glare on all my paintings when I take a photo.
