Skuksan Study 8: Larger

I’m getting a bit burned out on Patrick’s painting so I’m setting up a larger study of Mt Shuksan.

This study is a repeat of study #5 but larger. I think the composition warrants a much larger painting but first I’m going to work it up at this size before taking on a very large canvas.

What went well?

Setup and drawing basic idea was easy and I’m happy with it.

What didn’t go so well?

The hatching in some places on the mountain gets sloppy as I was rushing  a bit. I also need to decrease the size of the building.

What did I learn?

If I’m going to do a detail drawing of a painting before taking on the painting I need to understand that it needs more patience to complete well. Or I should re-think how detailed the preparatory drawing should be.
