After taking the photos of Sherlock I noticed that the hair looks as if it was pasted flatly over the head. The head should fill…
As I struggle with the motive for this Sherlock drawing I tried spreading charcoal with a brush to see if I could depict more structure…
For my exercise yesterday I went on a long walk around the neighborhood and I had the pleasure of experiencing this amazing oasis in the…
Today’s art session was a bit rushed and after looking at the photos I realized that I deviated from my motive and got lost in…
I started a new Fandom Fitness drawing today and this one is of Benedict Cumberbatch from the awesome BBC series Sherlock.
I had planned to spend only a half hour on the Harry Potter Drawing this morning but I was so engrossed that I finished it.
Today I decided to take a short art morning and focus on catching up on piles of to-do’s that I need to get done.
I keep piling on more and more charcoal to the dark side of Harry Potter’s face to really push the transition of his whole head.
I’m trying hard to look at Harry Potter’s head, see the large masses and focus on the structure of his head so I can communicate…
With a day off work and a hike in the future I’m excited to get my at in early and to try a new exercise…
Today I started on the next Fandom Fitness drawing, Harry Potter. This one features a courageous and resolute Harry Potter facing his death.
With researching Harry Potter images, taking our cat to the vet, trying watercolors for the first time, doing some gestures and holding down my day…
Sunday morning and I’m taking it easy, just doing a few things I’ve committed to and finishing Spock.
Most of my decisions, while applying value on the Spock drawing, is whether to draw with, or against the form.
Spock needed more intricacy to describe the complexity of his face so today I began mixing charcoal and graphite into this drawing and it’s working…
Super full day of art! I started with a modeled painting in gouache, then gestures from memory, then a daily composition and finally some more…
Today I put aside my normal Nicolaides exercise and Fandom Fitness drawing for a relaxing day of art.
I’m struggling with a concept with this painting so I’m experimenting with different processes.
As I’m painting Ann today I’m searching and searching for something, I’ll know it when I find it.
The second layer of oil on this painting is going well but regardless there is always an awkward look at this stage.
The first day with oil on the painting of Ann, YAY!
I didn’t want to title this post “Drawing Finished” because even when you’re painting your also drawing.
Working on the painting of Ann again today and a few contours to get warmed up.
The drawing of Ann is going really well especially after doing some contour drawings previously.
I was going to do more contour drawings but I decided to start on Ann’s painting because the canvas is ready.
My next major work is of Ann. I haven’t seen her in a while but I can still recall our photo session in June last…
After 141 Sessions of work on this painting I’m calling it finished.
I love the title of this post. There are some phrases that I could never in a million years think that I would every write,…
I moved a little out of my comfort zone today by using nothing but bigger brushes. I didn’t even take small brushes with me to…
I love the weekend! I’m up early and working on art by 6am.
Today I painted the background of the next shelf which is a cardboard box in preparation for painting the items tomorrow.
I finished the large shelf on the top left today. All the parts and pieces are starting to come together.
I worked on the third layer of paint over the Cd’s on Patrick’s shelf and I like them a lot more now that I broke…
Nothing very flashy or special today. I’m putting in the work that needs to get done and trying to find some meaning beyond the visual.
I’ve finished Pattie’s birthday present that I started a couple months back.
Back to the open studio this weekend and the group is at a new and very cozy place.
I feel like I’m on the home stretch with this painting while I work on all the background items.
I see all kinds of imagery in the drawing hanging behind Patrick’s head. Words, names, suns, landscapes, homes and the cosmos.
Today is a big milestone in the Patrick painting. I’m almost 100% sure that I’ve finished the figure unless I find something I hate later.
I’ve put my last strokes of paint on the couch and next I will finish all of Patrick after that the rest is all background.
I’m working on the last bit of the couch that needs to get finished and soon I can put my tube of black away.
I’m still a bit sick but I’m able to spend about an hour painting with good results.
The foot went a lot faster than I thought it would. I didn’t go crazy with detail and I like how it turned out.
For almost everything in my life right now if I’m having some kind of difficulty I always check-in on my fundamentals.
I worked more on the leg today and I’m having trouble with the flexed tendons that enter the top of the foot.
I’m working on the knee again today trying to add in some transparent layers to turn the form and add texture.
Happy new year and new decade! For me today is much the same as yesterday but the hope for my best decade every is growing.
This morning I worked on Patrick’s foot. Getting the drawing and values refined while also setting up for more layers later.
I’m working on another layer over the leg and trying to infuse some form into it.
I determined to get Patrick finished in this painting so my goal is to work on him until the whole bottom half of the painting…
Home alone on Christmas day is not so bad when I can have some awesome quiet de dedicated time to painting.
I finished up Patrick’s hand holding the beer bottle and almost finished the right side of the couch.
After 10 days away from this painting it took me a while to just get setup for it but it feels good to be back…
The last of the series finished and finished well!
This is the last painting in the series but I don’t think it will be the last gouache landscape I do. I’ve had a lot…
Even though I was having a lot of trouble keeping on task today I still finished this painting and got 2 hours of art in…
I’ve finished the fourth painting and started on the fifth. It’s a very productive day!
I’ve had a very productive day today, but not on art unfortunately. I only spent about an hour painting today.
I really like how these paintings are turning out. At first they don’t look so good but after some details they are really vibrant.
This one is of Mt Baker as seen from the Heliotrope Ridge trail.
