I didn’t want to get this detailed with the drawing but I felt like I needed to in order to get the likeness.
I switched to graphite for this drawing and took my time on it. I wanted to do the best I could.
This week we are back to drawing the model and I feel I captured Magera’s expression well.
I don’t think I’ve every had a likeness so hard to capture. Every time I draw Christopher Reeve I don’t quite capture him.
Today’s drawing was all about trusting myself and just going for it.
I’m honestly not liking any of these drawings. I know I can do better but it is a struggle to get a likeness while keeping…
So I got this next image from online of Christopher Reeve as Superman posing in the iconic superman way.
I’m learning so much while doing these drawings that I don’t want to stop.
I worked hard on this one and achieved a really good drawing of Christopher Reeve, but unfortunately I missed the whole point.
The model didn’t show up today so we took turns posing and drawing each other. It was a wonderful drawing session!
I realized just how much I really liked the original superman movie today and what an awesome actor and person Christopher Reeve was.
I’m embarking on a new project that requires that I get back to drawing. It’s been a while since I’ve drawn in charcoal and I’m…
Today I spent more time studying other artists rather than drawing. Most of my time was spent with Robert Henri and Thomas Eakins.
My next major work is of Ann. I haven’t seen her in a while but I can still recall our photo session in June last…
After 141 Sessions of work on this painting I’m calling it finished.
I love the title of this post. There are some phrases that I could never in a million years think that I would every write,…
I moved a little out of my comfort zone today by using nothing but bigger brushes. I didn’t even take small brushes with me to…
I love the weekend! I’m up early and working on art by 6am.
Today I painted the background of the next shelf which is a cardboard box in preparation for painting the items tomorrow.
I finished the large shelf on the top left today. All the parts and pieces are starting to come together.
I worked on the third layer of paint over the Cd’s on Patrick’s shelf and I like them a lot more now that I broke…
Nothing very flashy or special today. I’m putting in the work that needs to get done and trying to find some meaning beyond the visual.
I’ve finished Pattie’s birthday present that I started a couple months back.
Back to the open studio this weekend and the group is at a new and very cozy place.
I feel like I’m on the home stretch with this painting while I work on all the background items.
I see all kinds of imagery in the drawing hanging behind Patrick’s head. Words, names, suns, landscapes, homes and the cosmos.
Today is a big milestone in the Patrick painting. I’m almost 100% sure that I’ve finished the figure unless I find something I hate later.
I’ve put my last strokes of paint on the couch and next I will finish all of Patrick after that the rest is all background.
I’m working on the last bit of the couch that needs to get finished and soon I can put my tube of black away.
I’m still a bit sick but I’m able to spend about an hour painting with good results.
The foot went a lot faster than I thought it would. I didn’t go crazy with detail and I like how it turned out.
For almost everything in my life right now if I’m having some kind of difficulty I always check-in on my fundamentals.
I worked more on the leg today and I’m having trouble with the flexed tendons that enter the top of the foot.
I’m working on the knee again today trying to add in some transparent layers to turn the form and add texture.
Happy new year and new decade! For me today is much the same as yesterday but the hope for my best decade every is growing.
This morning I worked on Patrick’s foot. Getting the drawing and values refined while also setting up for more layers later.
I’m working on another layer over the leg and trying to infuse some form into it.
I determined to get Patrick finished in this painting so my goal is to work on him until the whole bottom half of the painting…
I was up late and very sick the night before, now I’m traveling home early in the morning.
I had a lot of fun drawing this tree and starting super detailed.
The inevitable happened. I missed a day. But it was a wonderful learning experience that I can prevent a repeat of.
Home alone on Christmas day is not so bad when I can have some awesome quiet de dedicated time to painting.
I finished up Patrick’s hand holding the beer bottle and almost finished the right side of the couch.
After 10 days away from this painting it took me a while to just get setup for it but it feels good to be back…
The last of the series finished and finished well!
This is the last painting in the series but I don’t think it will be the last gouache landscape I do. I’ve had a lot…
Even though I was having a lot of trouble keeping on task today I still finished this painting and got 2 hours of art in…
I’ve finished the fourth painting and started on the fifth. It’s a very productive day!
I’ve had a very productive day today, but not on art unfortunately. I only spent about an hour painting today.
I really like how these paintings are turning out. At first they don’t look so good but after some details they are really vibrant.
This one is of Mt Baker as seen from the Heliotrope Ridge trail.
I was having so much fun in gouache the past couple days that I decided to try it in the open studio session today.
I’m very happy with the improvements I’ve made over yesterday on the first painting and I like the second even better.
It’s a bit late in the game but I got inspired to do some Christmas / snowy themed landscape paintings for gifts.
Today is a bit of a milestone in this painting. I’ve fully covered the entire painting with oil paint. YAY!
My painting today wasn’t the best as my focus was split but it was worth it because I was chatting with my Mom and painting.
I finished up the textural background I started in the last session of this painting and I can’t wait for it to dry.
We are home now and I’m back to work on Patrick’s painting. I’m motivated to get all the gray covered up so I’m doing initial…
On day one of graduation I learned that I need some practice with sketching moving subject and use my memory more, today I practice it.
Today was spectacular! Up early for Meditation, Carpe Diem and Yoga, some Optimize programming then a SPARTAN RACE!
