Goss Lake in Gouache

Painting a landscape in gouache is very hard. There are so many variables that you have to deal with all at once that it is very frustrating. I definitely need more experience to do this well.

Within one hour of painting this is what I’ve had to deal with, most all at the same time.

  • Chair breaking
  • Light changing every 2 minutes
  • Subject changing as people come and go
  • Water changing
  • Severe changes in value to the gouache as it dries
  • Bugs
  • Hot sun

And yet today was a wonderful day 🙂

  1. Yeah I would potentially like to make it out to a lake (not necessarily Goss Lake) once a week or so. Perhaps you can get some extra practice on those days?
