Because most of my art time was taken up with errands today I decided to just call it a practice day.
Honestly, I’m just really happy that this year I’m frustrated that I can’t get a ton of art hours in every day. This is so much better than previous years when I found it hard to scrape enough motivation together to do more than an hour a day.
Warm-up and DrawABox exercises
The normal 15 minute warm-up in graphite.
The challenges continue with the 250 box challenge. Here is what a rushed page of boxes looks like. Full of errors. If you want to do anything well in art take your time and focus.
One Minute Gestures
The most common exercise from The Natural Way to Draw book is the one minute gestures. I love this exercise! It’s easy to start, easy to repeat and always challenging. The challenge was even harder today because I was rushing and lacked focus. I ended up taking out some of my frustration on the last page by scribbling madly and not caring if it even resembled a figure at all.
Daily Composition and Sketch
The errand that took up most of my art time today was taking my bike to the shop to get a new tire. Pattie and I ride my new bike every week and have a ton of fun working it into our daily workouts so I wanted to get it fixed right away. I ended up drawing the young guy helping me at the bike shop. Then I sketched Kiddie sleeping.

I was able to organize my limited time today into a practice day and feeling fulfilled.

Try not to rush through any of these exercises. It’s important to bring my best to everything I do in art.
How am I going to Optimize moving forward?
A repeat from yesterday, bring some more presence to my artwork and do some breathing exercises between each exercise.
