Superman: Embracing Deficiencies

I’m embarking on a new project that requires that I get back to drawing. It’s been a while since I’ve drawn in charcoal and I’m very rusty.

I love finding definite deficiencies in my skills. It’s like a super clear commanding order from the universe telling me what exactly I need to work on to get better. I’ve  know for a while that I needed to incorporate sketching back into my daily art and I’ve been trying to do that with my small sketch book and ink pens but now I know I really need to get the charcoal out daily and find my authentic and confident voice again in this medium.

The small ink sketches were not working at all, I needed to break out the charcoal set and newsprint. Once I start to get my confidence back I’ll be sketching on better paper.

What went well?

I have clear direction on what to work on.

What didn’t go so well?

I’m a bit frustrated at the lack of my confidence level in charcoal, but I’m going to work hard and get it back.

What did I learn?

Finding my faults and meeting them head on is wonderful!! It gives me all kinds of motivation and energy!
