Xena: Authentic Vision

With enough measuring anyone can copy from life, but using what is seen to communicate an authentic vision is the real purpose.

I liked the previous drawing of Xena it was well copied. In fact it was almost like a tracing of the image. I compared the drawing to the image incessantly and eventually irradiated all life in it. It may have some interest but it is a copy of a photo it’s not a drawing with my heart and influence.

“An interest in the subject; something you want to say definitely about the subject; this is the first condition of a portrait. The process of painting spring from this interest, this definite thing to be said. Completion does not depend on material representation. The work is don when that special thing has been said”…

A New Xena Drawing

I started Xena over in search for that authentic vision. In search for my authentic way of expressing what I see in Xena, this warrior princess.

I plan to continue working on it and trying to hold true to the initial vision I had however long it takes.

I have no care of finish, or pleasing the public, communication trough the tools of paper and pencil is paramount.

Gestures for today

What went well?

This may be the first time in a while that I really felt that I was expressing myself.

What didn’t go so well?

Time, lack there of, as always.

What did I learn and/or how can I do better?

Don’t wait for it, just step up and do it. Yeah you may suck at it but at least it is coming from the heart. Communicate through art and do it with your authentic self.
