Xena: Gestures and Modeled Drawings

I started a new exercise in The Natural Way to Draw plus the Xena drawing is looking great.

The modeled drawing exercise is great. It’s all about feeling the depth of the figure how it recedes and comes forward in space.

The practice is basically using the side of my charcoal pencil and moving over the paper as if I was moving my hand over the model. Pressing deeply into the paper when the model’s form recedes into space and letting up when it comes closer to me.

I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on the depth of form but this exercise is really going to solidify the mental representation into my brain.

I also spent some time on Xena. I wanted to spend longer but I have a very specific schedule now so I’m moving onto some web design work for Zoofit.net.

What went well?

Some really good drawing today!

What didn’t go so well?

Still struggling to use less of the photos and work more from my own authentic self.

What did I learn and/or how can I do better?

Modeling drawing is really going to help me feel the form in space of anything.

Keep pushing away from copying, a little at a time!
