After getting super organized. I’m started a new Fandom Fitness drawing and the gestures before it really helped.
The first thing I did this morning was organize all the great ideas that I’m currently working on. I’m taking on way to much actually. Regardless I needed to come up with a plan of attack so that I wouldn’t be as impulsive and starting new projects constantly.
How did I organize?
Last week I put all the things I’m working onto little pieces of paper and added them to a very low tech whiteboard.
Then this morning I created a spreadsheet and put all these great items through the Motivation Equation.
What is the Motivation Equation?
The equation is from Piers Steel. A leading researcher that researched the science of motivation. He came up with this equation so we can all stop putting things off and start getting things done.
Motivation = Expectancy x Value / Impulsivity x Delay
Value = How badly do you want it?
Expectancy = How confident are you that you can achieve it? Do you have the agency?
Impulsivity = How distracted do you get? Distraction in the form of other shiny awesome ideas.
Delay = How far in the future are your goals? Too much time and we loose motivation.
After removing a couple items that were too low on motivation and putting a couple more items on the back burner I have a very clear direction of how I can work on each important goal within my daily routine.
I started with gestures and my exercise schedule from The Natural Way to Draw. The went really well as I was focusing on the figure as a whole. Feeling the essence and purpose of the pose then drawing that at one cohesive unit.
Next I started work on Xena. I didn’t over think it too much. I had spent the previous two days looking for good images and now I’m working from what I could find.
The best thing is that I was still feeling the fluid motion of drawing the gestures and I kept up with that during this drawing and I feel that I was able to arrive at a beginning that has all kinds of expressive movement and captures the underlying gesture in the portrait.
Although after seeing the photo of the drawing in Lightroom I cringed. It needs some work and I will do that for the next several days.
Super great morning of awesome productivity and I’m not done yet! Lots to write and lots to read.
What went well?
Awesome organization, Energy and motivation today!
What didn’t go so well?
The Xena drawing needs work but that is to be expected.
What did I learn and/or how can I do better?
Organizing all my projects is super helpful for getting things started and making progress.
