Xena: See Structure

I’m trying hard to see structure in the photo of Xena I’ve been drawing from for the past couple days and it’s not going well.

I think it may be due to the quality of the image. To test this I may try doing a drawing from one of the awesome reference images I downloaded from New Masters Academy.

In order to see the form of the face and how it recedes and advances in space I did contour lines over a quick drawing as well as a printed copy of the photo.

Xena: See Structure

Maybe I should study the Asaro head, or look further into the Riley rhythms.

I’m not sure exactly what will get me there, besides some and effort. But I’ll keep working to see structure better.

Memory Gestures

I continue to practice from The Natural Way to Draw and the course exercises outlined out in the book.

I also did a modeled drawing. Another exercise that is all about the form and should help me see structure.

What went well?

I worked a ton on some more website changes to prepare for some awesome new content I want to add to my site.

What didn’t go so well?

Struggle with structure. I really feel that if I can conquer this aspect of art I can improve in every thing that I do.

What did I learn and/or how can I do better?

Try a better photo to work from to see if I actually see structure better. I have more trouble with vertical contour lines that horizontal.
